POLONIA

Polonia: People of Polish heritage living outside of Poland. The largest community of diaspora in the world.

This project was put together using the stories, heirlooms, and experiences of a descendent of Polish Jews, nobility, and intellectuals persecuted during the Second World War who relocated to Canada. Images are set alongside sections of the Polish Constitution.

Many did not survive. The first generation born after the Holocaust were called "The Miracles" and raised to be proud of their heritage and imbued with the spirit of their ancestors and homeland.
Images shot in a studio with a Hasselblad 500 and FujiFilm 400H.

Film developed and printed at Northern Centre of Photography at University of Sunderland.
